Slate is – from the standpoint
of enology – a wonderful rock which
glimmers on the steep hills in anthracite blue, brown red hills in an-
thracite blue, brown red and all shades of gray. The reason for it being
so wonderful is that no other rock or soil can match slate for the Riesling
taste and finesse in bouquet. Slate is a bank of warmth during cold nights,
a humidity reservoir in dry periods, and a rich deliverer of minerals
- the taste of which our palates crave in a successful wine. The steep
hills along the Mosel, with more or less weather-beaten slate soil, are
a great terroir for Riesling. |
