Main harvest of the Riesling vines from the steep slopes of Bernkastel-Kues and Kesten, characterized by blue to anthracite-colored slate.
In this dry wine, you can taste the slate and mineral qualities particularly intensely. This minerality and the unmistakable fruit of a fully ripe, healthy Riesling grape distinguish the BLAUSCHIEFER.

About this wine

Tasting

The 2025 is full-bodied yet balanced: an intense, bright bouquet of yellow fruit – dry on the finish, the pleasant acidity provides enough pressure on the palate; the moderate alcohol content ensures drinkability; with seafood such as oysters, but also simply: with a good thirst. Aging potential up to 10 years.

Press Reviews

2024 Blauschiefer Riesling dry - 90 points, James Suckling

With its effusive garden herb and green and yellow apple aromas, this light-bodied dry Mosel has a lot of charm and really good harmony for an entry-level wine. Zesty freshness in the very bright finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.

2023 Riesling Blauschiefer dry - 90 points, James Suckling

I love the effusive spring meadow character of this hyper-refreshing, medium-bodied dry Mosel Riesling. As the name suggests, it has a slatey character that energizes it and the drinker, too. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.

2022 Riesling Blauschiefer dry - 92 points, James Suckling

Very enticing nose of ripe pear with some white peach and floral aromas! All the elegance and delicacy we expect from high-quality Mosel Riesling, but this light-bodied and dry beauty is only an entry-level wine! Long, refreshing and delicate finish. This will be a bargain in all the markets it reaches. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.

Bastgen Probepaket

Our Stance

What Bastgen wines stand for

Three things characterize every wine we bottle: organic cultivation, authentic origin, and the work in the steep vineyards of the Moselle.

01

Organic since 1993

We have been farming organically since the 1990s – out of conviction and with a great deal of manual labor on the steep slopes. Today, we are among the few organic wineries on the Moselle whose vineyards are over 85% located on steep terrain.

02

Prädikat wine estate

All of our wines are bottled as Prädikatsweine. This means: no enrichment with sugar, no artificial manipulation. Only grapes, vintage, and origin in the glass.

03

Truly Mosel

Steep slate slopes, spontaneous fermentation, and a clear focus on the essentials. That is the Mosel. We don't want our wines to feel manufactured; we want them to show where they come from.
